Google just released a Gmail app for the iPhone/iPad/iPod (ios 4/ios 5), but it comes with the following error: “no valid ‘aps-environment’ entitlement string found for application”

This error seems to be associated with a bug in the apps push notification system. I’m sure an update will be pushed through soon to fix this problem. Until then, the Google Gmail app isn’t going to be so useful. Kind of sad to think that with this bug, the crummy native mail.app is more useful.

Has Google released a product in the past three years that didn’t have problem from launch? It seems like they have a few fantastic products, but a bunch more that don’t ever take off. Remember the Google 3D virtual room thing? What the hell was the deal with that?

Update: Google has already pulled the Gmail app from the Apple app store: “The iOS app we launched today contained a bug with notifications. We have pulled the app to fix the problem. Sorry we messed up.” (Link to Official Tweet) If this were something from a small developer I’d be more inclined to understand, but seriously Google? With as rigorous a hiring scheme as you have, this is the best you can do?

Why isn’t there a usenet binary downloader for the iphone or ipad?

I read over on sabnzbd’s forum that they are avoiding such an app because of battery issues. I have no problem plugging in if it means I can download on the go without having to bring a computer. This has already been done with torrents (even without jailbreaking): http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-download-torrents-on-iphone-ipad-without-jailbreaking-tutorial/

I’m sure there would be a number of people willing to pay through Cydia to getting a working usenet binary downloader.

Please post a comment if you have any insight into why such an app hasn’t been created.

SUCK MY DICK!!!

So…I update my iPhone by waiting like a good little boy instead of using the leaked version of 2.0. How do you repay me? WITH DEAD ACTIVATION SERVERS!!! Eat a poop Mr. Jobs, eat a poo. If you want to call me, just…oh wait…no YOU CAN’T!!! If I see you at Wholefoods again Mr. Jobs, I’ll make sure to thank you in person for your quality service. *I spit at your feet*

UPDATE:
I gave up on getting things to work and left my iphone at home and went to work. Once I got home I was able to sync up after about 30 minutes of trying. Finally, my new 2.0 software is loaded…what was that? oh yeah, MY CONTACTS WERE ALL FUCKED UP!!! I tried restoring, changing my contact settings, but nothing would fix the mega crap that the 2.0 software took on my phone. So I had to go through and fix all my contacts one by one. At least it gave me something to do on a Friday night. Thanks again Steve, your execution for the 2.0 release was an experience to remember.

Now, if i could only find a service that would send me a llama that easily.

So your computer is running a bit slow? Have pop-up ads, unknown programs running or if your computer is just acting strangely try out the following software.

All you need is one program, one program with the worst name ever: SuperAntiSpyware

Get it here: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

Just got to the bottom of the page and select the Free Version for Home Users.

Install, follow the steps, and update the Spyware Definitions. Now you will notice an ugly brown bug in the system tray on the bottom right of your computer, this is the SuperAntiSpyware system tray icon.

The next step that I recommend is to reboot your computer into safe mode. You do this by rebooting and pressing the F8 key to bring up the boot options, select safe mode.

WARNING!!! Never, EVER use the SuperAntiSpyware option to boot your computer into safe mode. This will change your <del datetime="2008-05-17T08:40:55+00:00">registry</del> boot.ini and if you come across a problem booting back into windows you’ll have to manually edit it.

I take no responsibility if you break your computer. Post questions below in the comments section.

Also:

People keep asking me how to use Usenet. I figured I’d just post it here for all to see. To those of you that want to keep Usenet a secret, eat a duck. So here we go.

First thing you will want to check is if your ISP (Comcast, SBC, Speakeasy, UL.net) provide you with Usenet access. Most provide text only access, you need binary access to download all those pictures of goats that you want. If your ISP does provide you with Usenet access then there will be limitations, just like with any Usenet account. The limitations are either on the speed or the amount you can download. If your ISP doesn’t provide binary Usenet access or you are too lazy to check then I would recommend that you pick one of the following Usenet providers:

https://secure.giganews.com/signup/ (one of the highest quality providers)
http://easynews.com/ (another good provider)
http://www.news.astraweb.com/ (they have
non-monthly plans)
http://www.exit109.com/~jeremy/news/providers/providers.html (list of
other providers)

Once you have your account you will be given a username, password, and
a news server to use (something like news.giganews.com).

Next you will need to get yourself a News Reader (Program used to access and download from Usenet). I use Grabit, but there are a bunch of different readers out there and Serfer tells me Grabit is for n00bs. If you are a n00b like me, you can download Grabit from the following link:

http://www.shemes.com/

Once you have downloaded Grabit follow these steps:
http://forum.shemes.com/viewtopic.php?t=2591&sid=d6bbdcde75b7967d6f6e95e81a318ab5

Now you are able to start downloading from usenet…but what/how do you
download? There are two ways to download from usenet either by using
Grabit to get headers from different news groups (which can be a pain) or you go to either of the following sites:

http://www.newzbin.com/ (Though I only recommend that you download things that you are legally permitted to download, like pictures of goats.)

http://binsearch.info/ (Keep in mind they sometimes have NOT WORK SAFE
banner ads. This site is less organized, but is free.)

What you get from the two sites above are called .nzb files. These are
files that are associated with Grabit. To give you an idea of how the
process of downloading a .nzb file, loading it into Grabit and then
downloading the file from usenet works, try this:

Go to http://binsearch.info/ Search for something vague like ‘cats’.
What you will see are a list of different files, these are
called headers. What you will do now is pick one of these files by
checking the box next to it on the left side of the screen. Then
either at the top of bottom of the page you will push the button
“Create NZB”. This will prompt you with a download, select open with
and pick Grabit (if it’s not there try to locate it in your program
files directory). Now Grabit will come up and and ask you what type of
batch files, select ‘NZB file’, select the server that you setup
earlier (It might just be the default), and then look at the other
options and choose what you’d like then hit “Grab”.

This will now download the file to your computer to the download
directory (The default is in my documents “Grabit Downloads”).

If you have any questions please feel free to post them in the comments section of this post.
